When i got this in my battlbox I was a little skeptical. I like the function of making tinder, but was more amazed by the striker. It produces an amazing spark and I was able to light a fire quick. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys h

Looks cheesy, works great

When I got this in my BattlBox subscription, I thought it was a wasted item. After finally getting around to give it an honest chance, I have changed my mind: *now* I think it is a "stupidly brilliant" piece of gear:

- Stupid, because *I* should have thought of it

- Brilliant because it works far better than I expected.

Pros:

1) The shavings are fine grained. Translated, this means that you get a lot of surface area that is very easy to ignite with a ferro rod

2) Efficient: when used with fatwood, you can produce a bunch of fires (I'm guessing you could easily get 50 fires from a single piece of fatwood)

3) For such a cheap looking product, the grate is surprisingly robust and easily grates the fatwood.

4) Has a small collector to collect the grated material. You can pre-fill it before taking it with you. I think it holds enough to build 2-4 fires (maybe more)

Cons:

1) It looks like toy cheese grater from a Barbie cook set.

This scraper and a good piece of fatwood will make some of the best fire starter you can find. I take a piece of fatwood

and with the pack rat tinder maker I can make a substantial

pile of thin scrapings which can easily be ignited with a ferro

rod. Great source of tinder when the situation is wet or snowy.

Works Amazing
