Always keep fingers inside the protective hand guard when sharpening or injury could occur. Secure your boadhead so that it doesn't move. Place the ""V"" groove that is created by the two tungsten carbide cutting heads over your broadhead blade. Some broadheads may need to be disassembled in order to sharpen entire length of blade. Hold the sharpener at a 90-degree angle to the broadhead blade and with light pressure pull the cutting heads down the blade until sharp. Three or four strokes are all it will take. Repeat steps on each blade.

    1. Do not put your fingers inside hand guard when removing your broadhead or injury could occur. Keep fingers on the outside of sharpener handle when losing or tightening your broadhead. When using the wrench, select the slot that fits your broadhead. Slide broadhead into slot until snug and then loosen or tighten by rotating the handle. Do not over-tighten. 1/2"" to 1"" of the blade to extend past the edge of your flat surface.
    2. Position the head of the sharpener at a 90-degree angle to the knife's cutting edge. Draw the sharpener across the blade from the heal to the point while applying a light downward pressure. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times until your knife is sharp.
    3. Reversible and Replaceable Carbide Blades and Ceramic Stones – When the carbide blades or ceramic stones stop removing metal from the knife blade, they can be rotated for use on the other side or replaced. To rotate or replace, remove the two screws and the plastic cover. Remove the blades or stones and rotate or replace. If rotating blades or stones, rotate 180 degrees and place the top blade or stone into the bottom slot, and the bottom blade or stone into the top slot. Replace the cover and two screws.

Always clean your sharpener after use. Clean with a damp cloth or non-abrasive brush. Do not rinse with water.

    V-Shaped Sharpening Slots:

    1. Insert knife blade into the V-shaped slots at a 90-degree angle to the sharpening blades or stones.
    2. Pull the knife blade straight back towards you while applying light pressure.
    3. Repeat this action until blade is sharp.
    4. Tapered Diamond Rod / Flat Edges:
    5. Always hold the unit with the rod facing down. Place heel of the blade on the diamond rod closest to the unit.
    6. Hold blade at a 23 degree angle to the rod.
    7. While applying light pressure, push the knife away from you towards the end of the rod. Draw knife down so that the tip of the blade comes off the end of the rod. Repeat this action until blade is sharp.
    8. For the other side of the blade, you will need to switch hands holding the sharpener and the knife and repeat steps 1 -

Tapered Diamond Rod / Serrated Edges:

    1. Only sharpen the side of your knife edge with the serrations.
    2. Hold rod at 23 degree angle to the blade and move it back and forth through each serration until sharp.

Always clean your sharpener with a damp cloth after use and towel dry. Do NOT rinse with water.

    Great Little Packit Shapner

I bought this sharpener for my stepson. He loves it. He does not have to worry about getting the right angles when sharping his knife.

    Great When It Works.

Well this is the second time I've written a review on the Pocket Pal. And still never shows up. I purchased my Pocket Pal from Walmart a couple of years ago and the first time I opened the Phillips screw to clean out debris on the edges the plastic just broke off over the ceramic side. And while I know I can purchase the replacement ceramic/carbide edges when I need to- Why did the plastic just break off over the ceramic side? And I notice that the edge blades themselves rust rather easily. So I guess I'll just purchase another one.But the plastic seems rather flimsy.

    Great When It Works.

I liked this sharpener- A lot. That is until I decided to unscrew the screw to clean out the Ceramic pieces side and the plastic just broke apart when trying to slide the plastic piece up and out. I purchased this at Walmart and have had Smith's products in the past. I'm not sure why the plastic broke. I expected it to last longer. And yes 2+ years use was a plus- Oh well. And to make it worse- Walmart doesn't carry these any longer. Was great while it lasted.
